The Face Of Another, from the amazing Hiroshi Teshigahara box set, has one of the most disturbing opening sequences I’ve ever seen. The lead character, played by the stalwart Tatsuya Nakadai, delivers a long monologue while his head is being x-rayed. (I had to check Wikipedia to verify that Nakadai is still with us!) The film brilliantly explores the mutability of identity and is visually stunning. Big hat tip to Criterion for this essential release.
