I’ll be sitting in for Salif and Charlie on this week’s edition of African Rhythms on KFAI, Thursday from 1-3 CDT. Featured CDs will include the great new Nigeria Rock Special from Soundway. You can stream the show live on KFAI’s website, and the show will be available for two weeks after broadcast.
In honor of Nonesuch finally getting around to releasing Made In Dakar (May 20 – 7 months after the UK release) here’s more of OB’s live majesty.
Here’s a sneak peak mini-doc on the making of the new Al album, due in stores May 27. Will it reach the heights of his Hi glory years of the early 70s? The snippets here are tantalizing…
The Loronix website continues to amaze and delight with its ongoing restoration of rare and out of print Brazilian albums. Not only is the music great, but the packaging does an incredible job of hinting at the wonders within. Three cheers for Zecalouro and his contributors.

African Scream Contest Analog Africa CD
Analog Africa, a new contender, is giving Soundway a run for its money in terms of impeccable selection and packaging. There’s not as much screaming on this disc as you might expect, what is there shows the tangible influence of James Brown on young African bands in the 70s.
