Charlie Gillett

When I discovered the wonders of streaming radio in the early days of this century, Charlie Gillett‘s show on the BBC was one of the first I found and listened to on a regular, avid basis. He played a wide range of contemporary and classic music from around the world, the guiding principle being if he liked it, he played it. (He didn’t like British folk for some reason so that was out.) I heard artists like Buika, Sara Tavares, Mayra Andrade and Tinariwen all for the first time on Charlie’s show and they all became personal favorites. Many thanks to him for his years of tireless crusading for fine music – he will be missed.
