African Rhythms, KFAI 11/17/11

November 17, 2011

Joni Haastrup’s take on psychedelic Afro-rock with his Nigerian band Monomono (and later as a solo artist) is the focus of three stellar new reissues from Soundway/Tummy Touch. On today’s African Rhythms we heard a couple of tracks from those records, along with new music from Congo courtesy of Damon Albarn’s new DNC Music project pairing Western producers with contemporary Congolese musicians. That and much more awaits you via the MP3 archives at KFAI.

November 4, 2011

A heady mix of music and conversation on this week’s edition of African Rhythms on KFAI with Jojo, Charlie and Brad. Starting off with tracks from Bassekou Kouyate and Daby Touré with Skip McDonald and moving through deep cuts from Ernesto Djédjé (Ivory Coast), Dele Sosimi (Nigeria) and Gidi Gidi Maji Maji (Kenya) with some ringers thrown in (Sugar Minott, The Special AKA, etc.), the show is available as an MP3 stream for 2 weeks at the KFAI site.
