African Rhythms, KFAI 05/31/12

May 31, 2012

This week’s African Rhythms is an exploration of Afrobeat: its birth and development over 40 years ago and countless modern incarnations, from the earliest music of Fela Kuti and Tony Allen to today’s artists like Antibalas and Ocote Soul Sounds who draw upon the rhythms of Afrobeat as inspiration for their music. Melanie Marshall from the cast of Fela! joins us during the first half hour. The show is streaming at the KFAI site for two weeks.
