New music alert: Orgone album out now, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble EP out now, new Seu Jorge record coming soon! We heard tracks from each of these stunning new records on tonight’s episode of Temposphere along with plenty else including old school favorites like Curtis Mayfield, Elis Regina, and Kool & The Gang. A two hour stack of incredible music awaits you (2 weeks only!) at the Temposphere archive. The playlist, well worth poring over, is available there and here, after the break…

Global Beat, KFAI 04/14/10

April 14, 2010

Today’s edition of Global Beat skewed heavily towards the R&B side of things with new cuts from Sharon Jones, Erykah Badu, Georgia Anne Muldrow and Quadron (a soulful combo from Copenhagen) alongside classics from Al Green, The Counts and Gil Scott Heron as well as the usual mix of Afrobeat, samba, salsa and reggae. The show is available as an MP3 stream for two weeks at the KFAI site, the playlist is posted both there and here, after the break.

Temposphere, KFAI 11/07/09

Tonight’s episode of the Temposphere program on KFAI found us wandering through a familiar terrain of Afrobeat, Reggae, Samba and Salsa while taking a diversion into what I’m now calling “smoky folk”. Lots of new music (Havana Cultura Band, Shawn Lee & Clutchy Hopkins, Mayra Andrade) was leavened with a strong base of classics (Tim Hardin, Erykah Badu, Jimmy McGriff, and all too briefly The Love Unlimited Orchestra – full track next time!). If you missed the show during its live broadcast all is forgiven – you still have a decadent two weeks to enjoy it via MP3 stream (even better than live because you can deploy the pause function when necessary) available at the KFAI archives. Playlists available both there and here by clicking through.
