African Rhythms, KFAI 04/07/11: Pledge Drive!

April 7, 2011

We are getting tantalizingly close to reaching our goal of $80,000. It’s the 13th and penultimate day of the KFAI 2011 Spring Pledge Drive and Charlie, Jojo and I along with Deborah and Bill continued to make the case for listener partnership with community radio. Along the way we heard a lovely new track from the Moroccan-born singer Malika Zarra (now based in New York) plus cuts from Souad Massi, Sara Tavares and Vieux Farka Toure. You can support African Rhythms and KFAI by visiting the KFAI site. Today’s show can be heard for two weeks via MP3 stream. Playlist follows.

African Rhythms, KFAI 03/31/11: Pledge Drive!

March 31, 2011

Keeping the fires burning (over 1/3 of the way to our goal of $80,000), Charlie, Jojo, Deborah and I made the case for supporting African Rhythms and KFAI. Along the way we heard a brand new track by Orchestre Poly-Rythmo from their first album in 20 years plus plenty of classic African popular music including cuts from King Sunny Ade, Vieux Farka Toure and Orchestre Baobab. You can show your support for independent radio by visiting the KFAI site and you can check out the show and playlist here (and here).

Temposphere, KFAI 03/26/11: Pledge Drive!

March 27, 2011

It was day one of KFAI’s 2011 Spring Pledge Drive and I joined Luke Andrews on Temposphere for two hours of music and some good reasons to participate in commercial free radio. You can hear the show for two weeks and you can support KFAI with a membership right now.
