Global Beat, KFAI 01/19/11

January 19, 2011

New music releases have slowed down a little bit through the holidays so I mostly relied on the tried and true on today’s episode of Global Beat (I did sneak in new/old cuts from Brownout and the Afro Soul-Tet). Along the way we heard timeless tracks from Gregory Isaacs, Bembeya Jazz, PM Dawn and the heretofore lesser mentioned Pluto Shervington. The show is available in its entirety for two weeks as an MP3 stream at the KFAI site where you can also scan the playlist (posted here as well, after the break).

Temposphere, KFAI 09/05/09

September 5, 2009

If it’s Saturday evening on the West Bank of the Mississippi River in Minneapolis it’s the time and place for Temposphere, a weekly musical amalgam of fresh and classic jazz, samba, salsa, dub, Afrobeat and funk. This week’s edition featured classic cuts from the likes of Donald Byrd, PM Dawn, Mark Murphy and Ennio Morricone, plus tracks from some superb recent CDs: Sara Tavares, Kylie Auldist, Quantic & His Combo Barbaro, and Brownout have all released great new records that you won’t regret tracking down. You can relive the 2 hours via MP3 or Real Audio streams at the KFAI site; the playlist is posted both there and here after the break.
