African Rhythms, KFAI 04/26/12

Jamaica became an independent country in 1962 and for the past 50 years has been an international musical powerhouse, moving from ska to rock steady to reggae, roots and dancehall and beyond. General Moses (Legends of Ska) joined Brad Wrolstad on this week’s African Rhythms for a two hour survey of the evolution of Jamaican music featuring cuts from Prince Buster, Derrick Morgan, Alton Ellis, The Ethiopians, Desmond Dekker, Freddie McGregor, Black Uhuru, Jacob Miller and a host of others. Legends of Ska Kickstarter campaign underway

Our friends at Steady Rock are taking things into high gear as they inaugurate their Kickstarter campaign to finish the Legends of Ska documentary about the birth of Jamaica’s vibrant music scene and the amazing reunion of many of the architects of Ska including Prince Buster, Derrick Morgan, Alton Ellis, The Skatalites and a host of others.
