African Rhythms, KFAI 04/26/12

Jamaica became an independent country in 1962 and for the past 50 years has been an international musical powerhouse, moving from ska to rock steady to reggae, roots and dancehall and beyond. General Moses (Legends of Ska) joined Brad Wrolstad on this week’s African Rhythms for a two hour survey of the evolution of Jamaican music featuring cuts from Prince Buster, Derrick Morgan, Alton Ellis, The Ethiopians, Desmond Dekker, Freddie McGregor, Black Uhuru, Jacob Miller and a host of others. African Rhythms, KFAI 09/29/11: Pledge Drive!

A tribute to Leonard Dillon and the Ethiopians (all on rare 45s courtesy of producer Ted) highlighted the first fall 2011 pledge show on African Rhythms. Lots more music was played, along with compelling reasons to support community radio. The show is available for two weeks as an MP3 or RealAudio stream at the KFAI site.
